Where does Nottingham Green Energy
come from?
|
| Household waste from across Nottinghamshire is burnt at the Eastcroft Incinerator. Steam is produced and passed to Enviroenergys premises on London Road in central Nottingham. In a two stage process this steam is passed through turbines to generate electricity and is then used to heat water which is distributed to customers buildings through our network of insulated underground pipes. back to top |

How can my building use Nottingham
Green Energy?
|
| Rather than using a traditional gas or oil powered boiler a customers buildings are fitted with heat exchangers which service internal water filled heating systems, pipes and radiators, just as a traditional boiler would. Hot water used in the building is also supplied via the heat exchanger. Metering equipment records the amount of energy being drawn from our network by each customers heat exchanger.back to top |
 |
How do we know how much energy you
are using?
|
|
Metering equipment calculates the amount of energy used by a customer in kWh by monitoring the temperature of our hot water entering and leaving the premises and the rate of flow of the water.
If your building is used solely by one party, be it yourself or your tenant, this metering equipment will be used to create one bill.
If your building is used by many parties, for example in a sub-divided office building or apartment block, then each user will have a consumer connection board which controls and monitors heat being drawn from the buildings central supply. This equipment would be used to generate individual bills for each consumer. back to top

How would I pay?
|
Commercial customers are invoiced monthly based on a meter reading.
Domestic customers can pay in a variety of ways, such as by making payments by monthly standing order with an annual reconciliation, by a pre-payment card system, or by the traditional quarterly invoice method.
Properties can have remote meter reading equipment installed that enables the heat meter to be read without the need to access the premises or disturb the occupants. back to top |

What if the property has multiple occupants?
|
This can be managed in a number of ways. Two suggested methods are:
1. The supply into the building could be metered and this would then be charged directly to the Service Management Company for the building. The Service Management Company can then apportion and re-charge the individual tenants for heating and hot water.
2. Individual metering equipment can be installed into each occupants property, with any communal areas being charged to the Management Company. This option will require a higher level of capital investment, but it might best suit a residential development back to top |

What about other utility supplies to my premises?
|
Electricity: you would buy this as normal from a utility supplier. We can also supply electricity through our own cables to large customers.
Gas: you can still have a normal gas supply to your building if you wish. If gas is not essential or if electrical cooking equipment is installed then a gas supply need not be necessary. No flues are needed so internal building design is made easier and planning permission, particularly for development of listed buildings, may be easier to obtain.
There is also a safety advantage in not having combustible gas on your premises. back to top |

How much will Nottingham Green Energy cost?
|
To calculate the capital cost we need to examine your building and its position in relation to our existing network. The buildings maximum levels of demand are used to determine the plant required.
We need to understand how your building is to be used and the existing heating and hot water arrangements. This data will enable us to calculate the capital costs and the unit price of energy to be supplied. Again, remember that our energy is exempt from the Climate Change Levy for commercial customers, thus offering immediate savings compared to fossil fuel based systems. back to top |
